Psalm Sandwich - Politicians

Painting by Howard Chandler Christy (1873-1952...Image via Wikipedia
Psalm 12: 1-4
Help, O Lord, for there is no longer anyone who is godly; the faithful have disappeared from humankind.
They utter lies to each other; with flattering lips and a double heart they speak.
May the Lord cut off all their flattering lips, the tongues that make great boasts;
those who say, "With our tongues we will prevail; our lips are our own - who is our master?"
 (The New Oxford Annotated Bible)

Dear Lord, will they not stop their bleating rhetoric;
have their morals gone down to dwell with the worms?
They lie to themselves, to their constituents to each other;
their double faces are too numerous to number.
They need their lips and their tongues
but could we not give them a smidge of humbleness and integrity.
Maybe just a dead fish under their front seat to remind them who is their Maker?
(Sunrise Sister)

Psalm 12: 1-4
Quick, God, I need your helping hand! The last decent person just went down, All the friends I depended on gone. Everyone talks in lie language;  Lies slide off their oily lips. They doubletalk with forked tongues.
Slice their lips off their faces! Pull the braggart tongues from their mouths!
I'm tired of hearing, "We can talk anyone into anything! Our lips manage the world."
(The Message - Eugene Peterson)

  1. Are you sure cp didn't sneak on here and post? ;) in ancient Ireland they used to cut out the tongues of the royal messengers so they couldn't talk. Just a thought. This sandwich doesn't sound so tasty. (well-written as it is) xoxoxo

    Only just spotted this one - very appropriate as we have an election going on in the UK at the moment. Whoever wins will be problematic.

  4. I really do live the life of an optimist but occasionally "both sides" of issues come out sounding not too bright. Of course, the side I favor usually sounds "more" intelligent to me but then again I wonder at times.

    I keep up with the UK elections a bit to know that things aren't exactly smooth there either. Really in this day and age WHO can possibly want to stand in the light and defend us all in whatever way possible - politicians really can't win!

    Tx for reading:)
