January - almost gone

I suspect that New Year's Resolutions are still made by many and even kept by a few for a while.  Garnering advice from the blogosphere, I gave up resolutions a few years ago in favor of a single "word" for the year.  For 2010, the word for me was SAVOR.  Indeed it turned out to be a year to do just that!  Even if only the books I read, the movies I saw, Life Coach Tonya with whom I work(ed), times spent with old and new friends and family, travel, the Big 5K - even if those events were the only ones to be savored (and there were more), the year was a full and rewarding one!

Continuing to Savor the events in my life, this year's words are going under the suggested label (from LC/Tonya:) of "Beacon Words" and they are:
Fearless/Creative/Energized

Working with this combination of words in my head for almost a month now - even as my spouse and I traveled, I recognized that often when I thought the word "fearless," I sort of giggled and thought -"who are you kidding?!" -  THEN ignoring my dopey lizard brain and to emphasize my resolve, I'd say the word out loud......other two words, almost the same reaction.

This week upon returning from our travel (SE Asia cities - amazing!),  with some trepidation, I stepped into my studio to continue working on the upcoming one woman art show I've scheduled for the month of June and my first thoughts were - "what was I thinking, do I really think I can pull this  event together, I haven't a creative thought in my head?!"  That's fearless, huh?

Then reciting the three word mantra out loud several times, I began - I could give you the brush by brush story, but bottom line is - that was Wednesday, this is Saturday; I have two pieces completed now that I had begun before we left town, one grand re-work going, and two brand new pieces begun that I had only envisioned prior to my last time in the studio.

I don't mean this post to be about my prolific talent or about brainwashing, or mantras;  it's about reminding myself to believe in my abilities and how with just a few adjustment/suggestions from a stranger (LC/Tonya again), I've set out on a wonderful journey of my own to manifest all the sleeping imagination that has been living inside me for years - thus the fulfillment this year for me will be proceeding boldly - Fearless, Creative and Energized. And you......do you have a word or beacon words for the year?  Could you use a little kick from a stranger to get your brain and act in order?

  1. I have two words for this year, both of which are two-sided -
Expectation - which has meant a lot about duty and responsibility and which I now try to use as a looking forward, a birthing (that was a Christmas gift from on high)
Procrastination - which I was told was a gift from the devil - and which I say out loud to myself every time I hear myself making excuses why not or putting things off.
Regarding the stranger. a friend of mine came back from retreat with some spiritual advice that I had given him four years ago! Yes, sometimes it is the strangers words that ring louder - as long as you hear it suppose.
Every blessing with your project - off to a good start. m+x

  2. I like your trio of words and how they all work together. My word for the year is "bless," which is connected to the qualities of fearlessness, creativity, and energy for me, so I'm sure we will have parallel inspirations throughout this year.

Have you ever seen the movie Fearless, with Jeff Bridges?

  3. Well, you are not only energized but energizing. Fabulous, Sunrise Sister. You are an inspiration to me. Thank you.

My word is essence, maybe because I feel a need to do some inner work, hopefully helped or transformed by some outer work as well.

Welcome back! the SE cities, wow, this sounds very exotic!

    Blessings.

  4. Fearlessness, being willing to take risks, often can foster great creativity; so your linking of the two and then both to energized, which is that wonderful feeling that comes with achieve something creative, is perfect.

I chose the word "connections" and I'm continuing to make those as I reach out in the social networks I'm in. Good things are happening as a result, including the release of a collection of my poetry, Neruda's Memoirs: Poems. (You and Lucy (and others), by the way, are mentioned in the back of the book, because you were among the first threads in my networks.)

  7. Word --- also PROCRASTINATION - I'm certain it's a gift from the devil:).....it's a haunter for me but once more a word of great possibility if one remembers why we want the word in the forefront of our minds:) Could be just the reminder we need to fight off that "evil" force:)

  8. Hi Polli -
I agree that "BLESS" is a close match with Fearless, Creative, and Energized. In just the short time I've used these words, I have been truly blessed in my creative work. So glad to see you here today and share your word!

What a lovely word ESSENCE is - both ethereal and provocative as I often find your words of wisdom to me to be. Again, lovely - thank you for sharing it with me!

Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Taipei, Okinawa, Shanghai - mysterious and marvelous - it makes me tingle to believe that we were still there in the midst of those countries just a week ago!

  10. Maureen - As so often you are, right on target with me and how my three words work together for this year. I already feel the remarkable results and energy that they're projecting in my artwork. Thanks for chiming in and I can't think of a more wonderful word for you than the one you've chosen - CONNECTIONS. Your energy to touch the world in so many ways is inspiring. Thanks for the energy you bring to me:)
